Mandy Altimus Pond (Massillon, OH) is the recipient of the Modern Grimmoire artistic prize. She graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in history, summa cum laude with honors. Her photographs have been seen across Ohio and Michigan. Her photograph, “Waiting,” was the first place commercial winner in the 2011 Joseph Saxton Gallery’s Luminaries Competition, in Canton, Ohio.

She is currently working on A Long Time Ago, a photographic series featuring the fairy tales of “Snow White,” “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty.” Pond works as the archivist for the Massillon Museum. In her spare time, she enjoys performing with the improv comedy troupe Scared Scriptless, and the choral organization http://voicesofcanton.org/.

I use photography as a way to express how I want to see myself and my surroundings, making up stories of broken hearts, far away lands, love stories, solitude. My photos usually end up dark and tinted, which gives the sense you’re looking through a portal to see into my dream world.
